Blackrock Castle Observatory

Blackrock Castle Observatory is a joint initiative of CIT and Cork City Council. Situated on the banks of the Lee, at the historic boundary of the City of Cork, it’s vision is to affect positive change in attitudes toward science, engineering and technology in Ireland and be recognised and respected as a centre of excellence in scientific research, education and outreach.

BCO includes a top-level astronomical research centre, headed by Dr. Niall Smith, Head of Research at CIT; visitor centre; dedicated education programme; and the Castle Bar & Trattoria.

This incredible facility has already won a number of prestigious international awards, including the ‘THEA ‘Award for Outstanding Achievement’ from TEA, the world association for themed attractions.
